a woman who is proud and exudes confidence as she faces the world: JINAKI
Recently I shared the story of the sweet designs in the JINAKI line.
I came across the photos after someone who had visited the show posted them on Facebook and I fell in love with the bold prints and creative pieces.
Here is some information on JINAKI designer and creator Sharufa Rashied-Walker and her úbercute and highly fashionable pieces.
Ever since she was a young child, Sharufa has had an indelible love for fashion which stemmed from watching her mother create clothing. Sharufa made her own alterations to her garments and began styling herself while growing up. Her creativity continued to flourish while attending the School of Arts and Science at Howard University where she explored fashion design and began to hand sew pieces to her wardrobe. JINAKI was created while Sharufa was living in Nice, France. While there, she studied at the Singer Institut and began making original pieces. Her fabric choices stem from her exploits to Paris, Rome, and Belgium. Sharufa’s design aesthetic ranges from vintage inspired to modern tailored pieces.
JINAKI means self-confident in Kiswahili. JINAKI stands for a woman who is proud and exudes confidence as she faces the world. For the woman who loves color and can feel the vibrations from the designs she wears, JINAKI represents a woman who is daring, feminine, conscious, dreamer, and lover of all things fashion!
The fashion show which was a preview of the current collection was not your average showing. It was structured in a way that made it similar to an art exhibit and created an intimacy where the viewer’s focus was solely on the garments.
Jinaki’s website is currently under construction but it should be up and running pretty soon at jinaki.net
